Wood has good mechanical properties, but wood is an organic anisotropic material, and the mechanical properties of the CIS direction and the trans direction are very different. The tensile and compressive strengths of the CIS stria were higher in wood, but the tensile and compressive strengths of the cross stria were lower. Wood strength also varies from tree species to species and is affected by a number of factors including wood defects, load action time, moisture content and temperature, of which the effect is greatest for both wood defects and load action time. The strength of segmented wood can be reduced by 30-60% compared to that of uncemented wood due to different size and position of wood knots, and different stress properties (tensile or compressive). The long-term strength of the wood under load long-term action is almost half of the instantaneous strength.
